The Five Greatest Athletes In Sports History

When I make a list like this, I should start out by saying that it’s a really hard thing to do. I wasn’t around to see many of the athletes of the past, and the ones who are fresher in our minds will always seem more meaningful.

After all, we weren’t there to see most of the athletes of the’00s so it’s hard to completely realize what they meant to society at the time. What you should know is that many of the men from the past paved the way for the big stars we enjoy today.

With that said, I’m going to do my best to list five of the athletes who I believe had profound impacts on the world and within their sport. Feel free to chime in with your comments if you disagree with these. Here goes.

The oldest of the bunch here is Ty Cobb. He came before Babe Ruth and played a major role in making baseball the biggest sport in the country at the time. If not for Cobb, Babe Ruth might not have enjoyed the big stage.

Muhammad Ali. This man brought boxing to its height and electrified a world of fans. He’s still talked about every single day as the best boxer of all-time.

Pele. He did for soccer what Michael Jordan did for basketball and Babe Ruth did for baseball. Probably the greatest soccer player to ever don a uniform, this Brazilian legend will live on forever.

Babe Ruth. The Babe officially put baseball on the map and made it America’s pastime for nearly a century. He was a legend of his time and still remains the king of the home run in the minds of many. If not for Babe Ruth, baseball wouldn’t be as big as it is today.

In the basketball world, everyone wants to be like Mike. Many of us were fortunate enough to see him in action, and Jordan was the kind of athlete whose talent is witnessed once in a lifetime.

Why Buy Manchester United Season Tickets

Demand almost always outstrips supply for those looking to buy Manchester United football tickets because the team has a huge following and tickets are limited in number. That means for many supporters, the chance of obtaining a ticket to a single Manchester United game is never easy, so a season ticket to Old Trafford might be seen as the ultimate score.

However, on closer examination, despite the obvious advantages season ticket holders have of being guaranteed a seat for games at Old Trafford, and priority for the Red Devil’s away games, some aspects of owning a season ticket to Manchester United games might be less than ideal. Such as:

One example of this is the Manchester United policy called the Automatic Ticket Scheme. This policy ensures that every season ticket holder is guaranteed a ticket for all Champions League and FA cup home games. At first glance this might appear to be a good thing, but further examination shows that the season ticket holder is charged for each of these tickets even if he has no intention of attending any of the games. In the each of the 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 seasons, there were 10 of these extra games – and with a single game ticket starting at almost 50 pounds, this is a huge extra cost on top of the already very significant price paid for the season ticket.

There is a Manchester United Club policy known as the Automatic Ticket Scheme which ensures that every season ticket holder is guaranteed a ticket for all Champions League and FA cup home games. Although this might appear to be a good thing, further examination shows that the season ticket holder is charged for each of these tickets even if he has no intention of attending any of the games. Those Manchester United fans who invest in a season ticket thinking they can sell their tickets for games they cannot attend might find that that is not as easy to do these days as it once was. Manchester United does have an official ticket exchange where season ticket holders can list their unwanted tickets for sale at face-value, but tickets cannot be listed there until the club announces that the game in question has been sold out. This means that there is no guarantee that the tickets put up for sale get sold, so the prospective seller not only loses the ticket he is unable to use, he is out the substantial listing and handling fee it cost him to post the seat for sale.

Although there is no denying that the price of 19 single tickets is more expensive than a season ticket, when the other costs – approximately 500 extra pounds for the Cup games; the possibility of getting a seat in an undesirable part of Old Trafford; and the lack of guarantee of being able to sell any unwanted Manchester United tickets are added up, investing in a season ticket might not be worth it to even the most stalwart fan.
